STOP THE PRESSES!

I whipped up a quick video of the Asiana San Francisco Airport crash for you, which shows the visual approach to SFO 28L/R.  Superimposed is the ATC tapes, along with multiple videos taken at the scene, and an in-depth explanation of airport activities after the crash...

Here's another great vid (NOT mine) showing the normal path, superimposed with the Asiana 214 flight track...

  1. Everything I have ever heard about safety on an aircraft is that the closer to the rear, the better off you are. What scares me in this case, is as you hear from the captain of United 885, people have been ejected from the rear of the aircraft and are moving about on the runway. I doubt if this captain will ever fly again, I just hope that there are some serious evaluations of Asiana training methods to make sure all are being trained correctly.

  3. There's no way pilots with any type of knowlege should've let this happen. With only a handful of hours compared to them even I know what too low looks like. Does Asiana not practice CRM? Then the "training pilot" is still the PNF and is responsible for monitoring such basic things as airspeed.

    1. You're absolutely correct, Justin!

I am sure these VERY BASIC questions are being addressed by the NTSB as we speak. Asian airlines went through a LOT of CRM training in the past 2 decades, and as a result accident rates have dropped dramatically. But, much of CRM goes against the very grain of much of Asian culture, so is extremely hard to integrate. I wouldn't be surprised if this turned out to be a factor.

NOT implying "Probable Cause" here--that's the NTSB's job.
